Become a Science Museum Volunteer and see how your time and skills
can be used in remarkable ways! The Marian Koshland Science Museum explores the links between scientific research and
everyday life. Visitors to the Koshland Science Museum discover the practical
applications and social implications of scientific research through unique
exhibits that involve interactive displays, graphics, videos, and scientific
projections. Volunteers play an important role in assisting visitors
to piece together the scientific evidence behind current and often controversial
issues as they explore the Museum’s three exhibits on Wonders of Science, Global Warming Facts & Our Future, and Infectious Disease; Evolving Challenges to Human Health.
The requirements for this volunteer position include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to complete one 4-hour shift weekly for weekday volunteers or one 4-hour shift bi-weekly for weekend volunteers for one year (Monday-Sunday)
- Sincere interest and/or background in science
- Interest in serving the general public
- Ability to be courteous, respectful, and patient with visitors
- Desire to learn as well as teach
- Good oral communication skills
- Cooperative nature, including the ability to accept instruction and correction
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances
- Diplomatic; grace under pressure
- Professional manner and neat appearance
