2016 NAS Awards

Since 1886, the National Academy of Sciences has honored outstanding achievement in the physical, biological, and social sciences through its awards program. This year’s winners include writer, director, actor, and science communicator Alan Alda; California Institute of Technology professor Dianne K. Newman; Princeton University professor Sergio Verdú; and Stanford University Professor Carolyn Bertozzi.

Zika Virus Workshop

At the request of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine hosted a one-day public workshop on February 16, 2016 to explore potential research priorities arising as a result of the emergence of Zika virus in the United States. 

Spring Weather Safety

Tornadoes, floods, thunderstorm winds, hail, lightning, heat, wildfires, rip currents and tsunamis - spring is three months of danger that can imperil the unprepared. It roars in like a lion and continues to roar across the United States throughout March, April and May.

Risk and Ambiguity Study

Visit the Koshland Science Museum’s Life Lab to participate in an ongoing New York University study on risk and ambiguity. Participants 18 years and older are eligible for a gift card worth up to $125! Winners are drawn at random by the museum on a monthly basis.
