March 16, 2007Washington, DC – The Marian Koshland Science Museum has put together a schedule of public events to usher in the spring. To celebrate its new interactive exhibit, Infectious Disease: Evolving Challenges to Human Health, the Marian Koshland Science Museum will host a day of hands-on activities for the entire family on Saturday, March 31. Programs in April and May provide an opportunity to investigate food safety, kitchen chemistry, comedy, and cognitive health.

The Marian Koshland Science Museum engages the general public in an exploration of the current scientific issues that affect their lives. The museum's state-of-the-art exhibits, public events, and educational programs provide information that stimulates discussion and provides insight into how science supports decision-making. Located at 6th and E streets, N.W., the museum is easily accessible by metro at the Gallery Place/Chinatown and Judiciary Square stops.

Opening Celebration for Infectious Disease Exhibit
Saturday, March 31, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Join the Koshland Science Museum in celebrating the opening of a new exhibit, Infectious Disease: Evolving Challenges to Human Health. A day of activities for the entire family features a discussion and book signing from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with New York Times science reporter Denise Grady. Admission is free.

Science Cafe: Do You Really Know What's Going on in Your Kitchen?
Tuesday, April 3, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dr. Robert Wolke, award-winning food columnist for the Washington Post, performs demonstrations and answers questions about kitchen science. This program is presented in collaboration with the American Chemical Society. Admission is $5.

What to Eat: Public Health and Food Safety
Wednesday, April 18, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Dr. Marion Nestle of the department of nutrition, food studies, and public health at New York University leads a discussion of how our food system affects the public's health and what can be done to ensure that the system promotes health and safety. Admission is $5.

Science Comedy: It's Infectious
Thursday, May 10, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Brian Malow returns to the Koshland Science Museum for an evening of science comedy. Admission is $10, and includes a happy hour from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a comedy show from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Staying Sharp Series: Coping with Alzheimer's
Monday, May 14, noon to 1:30 p.m.
Dr. Janice Krupnick of Georgetown University leads a discussion exploring ways to recognize –– and cope with –– different stages of cognitive loss. The "Staying Sharp" series is presented in collaboration with NRTA: AARP's Educator Community.
Admission is free.
