Marian Koshland Science Museum Receives Momentum Award

June 21, 2005Washington, DC - Washington DC’s Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) has recognized the Marian Koshland Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences with the Momentum Award for Detail for its contributions to refurbishing part of the downtown streetscape.



At its annual awards luncheon, Downtown BID Board of Directors Chair, Kingdon Gould, praised outstanding individuals, business and agencies that have contributed significantly to the downtown area’s resurgence. Kingdon commended the Marian Koshland Science Museum’s “intellectually stimulating ideas, well presented exhibits and colorful exterior, which is a small-scale improvement that has made a large impact.” The Marian Koshland Science Museum is located at 6th and E Streets NW, a prominent corner of the downtown business district, and boasts colorful banners that blend modernism with historical architecture.

The Marian Koshland Science Museum, which features state-of- the-art exhibitions, brings to life the numerous studies conducted every year by the National Academies. The mission of the Marian Koshland Science Museum is to make these studies more accessible to the public, and to increase understanding of the nature and value of science.

The Downtown DC Business Improvement District is a private, non-profit organization that provides cleaning, safety, hospitality, marketing, economic development and homeless services to Washington’s city center. Their mission is to help raise downtown to world-class standards as a commercial, cultural and residential destination. The BID promotes downtown DC as the site of the world’s best museums, cultural venues, restaurants, hotels and shopping.
