D.C. Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER) is a monthly discussion forum on art science projects providing a snapshot of the cultural environment of the region fostering interdisciplinary networking. October's theme is Ecological Art.

NAM Annual Meeting: October 16

The National Academy of Medicine will hold its annual meeting from Saturday through Monday, October 14-16, 2017, in Washington, DC at the National Academy of Sciences Building. This year’s theme is Developmental Neurosciences: Do We Know Enough to Prevent or Reverse Major Behavioral Disorders?

Join the NAM in person or via webcast for public sessions on Monday, October 16. Sessions include a keynote address, panel discussions, and the President’s Forum on the US Opioid Epidemic.

Great ShakeOut: October 19

Many areas of the globe are prone to earthquakes. You could be anywhere when an earthquake strikes: at home, at work, at school or even on vacation. Are you prepared to survive and to recover quickly?

Great ShakeOut earthquake drills are an opportunity to practice how to be safer during earthquakes: "Drop, Cover and Hold On." ShakeOut also has been organized to encourage you, your community, your school, or your organization to update emergency plans and supplies, and to secure your space in order to prevent damage and injuries.

Gilbert F. White Lecture Series

The museum will close early to prepare for the Gilbert F White lecture series which will begin at 6pm. The Geographical Sciences Committee invites those in the Washington, DC area to the  2017 Gilbert F. White Lecture. This year’s lecture, Urban Trifecta: Green Infrastructure, Public Health , and Social Justice, will be given by Dr. Jennifer Wolch, the William W. Wurster Dean and Professor of City & Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley.
